In a 2009 poll on diesel mechanic salaries across the country, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics determined the average rate for the profession to be $20 per hour. The BLS also identified several industries paying their diesel mechanics at significantly higher rates.

These developments bring the good news for talented young people with math, science, communications and technical skills.

Manufacturing has been outsourced to China and truthfully if your job can be outsourced to anywhere where it can be done less expensively by your employer it most likely will.
